Wall St. Banker Tells Summer Interns %22To Live And Die%22 By His 10 Commandments In Awesome Email

“Welcome To The Jungle.” Great song, and even better email subject for welcoming summer interns to the hell that is Wall Street.

Justin Kwon is a second-year analyst in Barclays’ global power & utilities group, known as the “frattiest group” on Wall Street Oasis. He is also a guy just making power moves over the summer interns. Justin is their pledge trainer for the next nine weeks, and he wants to make sure that things are done his way. He fired out an email to them with their 10 Commandments.

Here is the email, provided from Business Insider:

Intern Email

My personal favorites:

Commandment 5 — Like during pledgeship, you are required to dress as the actives tell you to dress. Don’t even think of trying to take off that jacket.

Commandment 7 — Sleep is optional and should be the last thing on your mind. You’re here to work.

Commandment 9 — You can’t expect the elders always to have napkins. Sometimes we forget to grab some, and when your hands are messy, you need a pledge to clean that up. It just so happens that they require a nice tie or scarf. Don’t like it? That’s your own problem.

I also love the power move to tell them to respond promptly and that they basically have 30 minutes to do so, or they’re fucked. Another awesome takeaway was the guy who asked off for a family reunion only to be allowed to go as long as he cleared his desk and turned in his Blackberry.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Barclays essentially told them that the email was in no way, shape, or form allowed to be sent.

“The email was in no way authorized by Barclays. Barclays is fully committed to creating an environment where both our bankers and our business can thrive. We have implemented policies and training guidelines to enable employees to gain valuable experience while at the same time maintaining a healthy work-life balance.”

I’m sure this is just a way to cover their ass, because these commandments are great.
