After the University of Tennessee’s diversity office decided to encourage the use of gender-neutral pronouns and support something called “Sex Week,” its… or should I say “xe’s” funding was cut.
Yeah, supposedly lawmakers want state funds to go more towards education than this stuff. Those lawmakers are total jerks, right?!
From NBC News:
The controversy started last year with two posts on the diversity office’s website that promoted the use of gender-neutral pronouns and inclusive holiday celebrations. Republican lawmakers were outraged and threatened to pull funding from the office, causing several student-run protests on campus.
The bill was changed several times before the final version proposed reallocating the diversity funds to a minority engineering scholarship program.
The bill also proposed banning the university from using state funds to support its annual Sex Week, which sought to ‘foster a comprehensive and academically-informed conversation about sex, sexuality, and relationships,’ according to the school’s website.
Hmm. Realllllly thought Sex Week was going to be cooler than that. I had much, much higher expectations. Gonna sit that one out.
Okay, the loss of jobs is shitty in this situation, but the employees will reportedly still be getting paid through June 30. That actually sounds like a best case scenario. Plus, the funding is now going to a minority engineering scholarship program, which sounds like a much much much more useful thing than it going to someone who spends their days telling people how to use ne, ve, ze or xe correctly.
Agree or disagree with the lawmakers’ decisions on this one, I’m glad someone has stood up to these gender-neutral pronouns and said, “yeah, this is dumb AF and we’ve got more important issues in this world. Can we just go ahead and nip this in the bud? K thx.”
Question, though: Do we have to protest EVERYTHING?

It’s gotta be really tiring to be offended all the time
Like the people who are offended by lack of Fail Friday, lack of comments in the Ask Stanley column, and the lateness of Comments of the Week?
Who the hells side are you on
Just tired of the righteous indignation. Enjoy the site for what it is and/or find pleasure doing something else.
Youre part of the silent minority. I, for one, don’t want it all to escalate to the point that the sites most salient features go by the wayside (e.g. fail friday, commenting privilege). But speak up and you’re “defending” the writers.
If you ever watch the Milo/Crowder UMass video, you hear people hurling non sequitur insults at the speakers the entire time, and when the babies have their mics yanked, they cry foul in the way of free speech. Oh..I’m choking on irony.
or… GTFO you piece of righteous shit
Thank you, SteveHoltOnDrugs, while you may be lambasted for your opinion, I think that its a mature one to say the least. And to everyone that downvoted Holt, understand that you are a part of the problem. Take a fucking joke, laugh at yourself, and be a god damn man. You’re better than this guys. Fuck.
“Fail Friday temporarily shut down after TFM staff take offense to commenters disdain for intern Sydney”
I identify as giant kin. My pronouns are fee, fi, fo, and fum.
Brothers, try-hards and TFM staff: I think I found the main issue with the whole intern Sydney (I understand that’s how its parents decided to call it) situation. It all relies in the pledgeship process. People like her are the main reason we have this more than needed and unique requirement. There’s always freshmen who come in thinking that they are the shit and they need to get their reality checked: they are lower than pond scum. Intern Stanley is lower than pond scum to us and that’s why we feel the need to remind it everytime we get the chance. She came in with her own blog, talking as if she was hot shit. I would rather have ANYONE else in the TFM staff (except for Dan, fuck that guy) do what she does. All I’m trying to say is that we would “respect” her more if she actually earned the right to answer our more than imoortnat questions. We all know she’s supposed to attractive and all, but the lack of sororities having pledgeship is showing and we somehow feel the need to out her down. If you guys, TFM staff, can somehow solve this issue, I’m more than sure that the shit-show this beloved website has become would be cured. Please take action and I promise I will do my part.
Or she can show us her tits, I feel like that would be easier and healthier.
In the words of the late great Colonel Sanders “Tits or GTFO”
This wouldn’t be happening under a Romney presidency

I love Zootopia.
trying to get rid of gender specific pronouns might be the stupidest cause anyone has ever undertaken. We had this way of doing things since probably before humans had a written language. And because roughly 1 in every 200 people don’t like the fact that biology creates two genders, that we should get rid of he and she?
Just another example of how society is slowly going batshit crazy–and in Knoxville, of all places.
Actually I identify as cool ranch Doritos so if everybody could try to refer to me that way I won’t get too triggered
All of the purple haired liberals laid down on PED walkway to try stop us from going to class because of this, should’ve brought out the fire hoses like 1960’s Birmingham.
Is no one gonna mention that the post was made by Mohammad Ali…..?
Ever wonder if Social Justice Warriors (SJW) have their hatred aimed at the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) for having their letters first? We already know these total bafoons dislike math, econ, and biology, ya know, because they make sense. Just a thought…
Also I’m moving to Tennessee and plan to trigger the shit outta these sallies.
as a Student at UT I’d hardly say they are temporarily shut down. They can’t operate without funds from the State. It would take a bill to pass in a Republican state to give them their 500k back.
Read the email Cheek sent out last week, they’re gone
Which is why I am arguing that they are only temporarily shut down as the title suggests. They are gone forever
Hope you guys are getting rich over there cause these tank games are real fun
