Update: the raffle was conducted by the Kappa Alpha chapter at UNCC, not the Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter as the article previously stated.
Students and the Greek community at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte are rallying behind Torie Costa, a 20-year-old Zeta at the university who is battling stage 4 Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer that affects muscles in the torso, legs, and arms.
Due to the cost of fighting the disease, Costa had to withdraw from college and drop her sorority.
To help raise money for her and her family, the Kappa Alpha chapter at UNCC raffled off a Yeti cooler last month. They received a total of $1,000 in donations.
The Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter at UNCC filmed a video with Costa’s friends to show their love and support. It’s a lip-synch to the world’s happiest rap song, “Good Day featuring Nappy Roots” by Greg Street.
The video was picked up by both Ellen Degeneres and Panthers Tight End Greg Olsen, which must have been huge for a Carolina fan as big as Costa.

Costa has also received an overwhelming amount of support from the rest of the community. Her Gofundme page, which you can donate to HERE, has received over $16,000 in donations.
Unfortunately, Costa took a turn for the worse last week. According to her Gofundme page, she was placed in critical condition after difficulty breathing.
Major props to the UNCC chapters of SAE and KA for all they’ve done. You gave a girl a reason to smile when there isn’t a whole lot to smile about..
