So these two best friends, Joe and Dimitri, were seniors at the University of Dayton when they decided to shotgun a beer together every day for a week leading up to St. Patricks Day. Totally reasonable. Every guy has a shotgun pact at some point in their lives. My boy Fritter and I smashed a Natty before physics class for a whole term this one year (I earned every point of that C-).
But these two guys broke the mold when they decided to go for the ultimate streak. Joe and Dimitri blew past St. Paddy’s and signed on to continue the streak forever. With no end date.
These guys are now getting close to day 1,000.
From Bro Bible:
Here we are now, 980 days later, and we still have not missed a single day. We have shotgunned a beer together either in person, or through Facetime, for 980 days straight. Joe lives in the suburbs of Detroit and I live in Chicago, so the good majority of these have been through Facetime, but I would estimate we have done a solid 100 in person.
I’ve been in a long distance relationship before, so I totally empathize with how difficult it is keeping something like this up, but the pact conquers all.
Joe and Dimitri have had to overcome some massive obstacles to keep the streak in a world that doesn’t care about friendship or shotgunning. Besides just matching up schedules, there were vacations, girlfriends, and even a trip to the emergency room to deal with.
Joe had to stay overnight in the ER in Louisville and one of his buddies drove 30 minutes to lift him a beer and slip it when the doctors weren’t looking. That’s dedication.
As I mentioned before, J ad D are nearing their 1,000th day, and they’ve absolutely pulled out all the stops on a huge party. They rented out the top floor of their favorite bar, sent out Save The Dates, and are expecting up to 300 people to show up.
The big day is December 3.
If you’re in the Chicago area, these guys seem pretty chill. You could probably ask for a crash. Apparently Bon Jovi is going to be there?
They only ask you bring your best fur-lined vest and asshole jorts, which really isn’t that unreasonable. It’s Shotgunpalooza.
