Texas upset a heavily favored Oklahoma team this weekend. Austin City Limits is going full swing. From an outsider’s perspective, Austin should be a center of jubilation and intoxication, but all is not well in the world of activism.
If you’re a student at the University of Texas, you’re about to receive undeniable confirmation that Austin is, indeed, still weird. Come August 24, 2016, the flagship campus will be covered in students exercising their new right to carry on campus, and an assload of dildos. So many dildos. At least 1,200 dildos if the Facebook event created by a violin performance major can be considered an accurate representation of those attending.
#CocksNotGlocks. That’s the motto these people live by. “These people” being the ones who find it absurd that students will have the legal right to carry a concealed weapon on campus, and the best way to combat gun laws is obviously with dildos. Any rational young activist could have come to that conclusion. If you aren’t able to connect the two, it may be time to check your privilege.
ANYBODY can participate in solidarity: alum, non-UT students, people outside of Texas. Come one dildo, come all dildos.
“You’re carrying a gun to class? Yeah well I’m carrying a HUGE DILDO.”
Just about as effective at protecting us from sociopathic shooters, but much safer for recreational play.
Their stated reasoning for selecting a sex toy as their symbol of solidarity comes from the the campus prohibition against obscenity and obscene images. Guns kills people. Dicks don’t kill people. Therefore, they fight guns with dicks. As campus activists, logical thought is considered more reprehensible than the gun laws they’re protesting, and as well are all well aware of, the only way to win over reasonable people is with irrational thought.
There is a semblance of reason beginning to counter the group, however, which gives me hope that the citizens of Austin haven’t completely lost their rationality.
And then there’s this guy, who just wants to watch the world burn..
