I love cars with vanity plates for two reasons. One, because usually whatever the owner chose to put on the plate is unbelievably stupid and I can make fun of them, and two, to serve as a reminder to my parents that while their son Jared is dumb, he’s not “spend money on a vanity plate” dumb.
I’m well-versed in Texas vanity plates, too. Here’s the best one that I’ve seen here so far.

Needless to say, because of how much I love to hate vanity plates, I’m pretty disappointed that the Texas DMV nixed the license plate “AF.”
From Houston Chronicle:
The dream of a Texas license plate featuring the “Don’t Tread on Me” Gadsden flag and the letters “A” and “F” were dashed on Monday morning, according to Steve Farrar, president of the license plate website that works in tandem with the state of Texas.
“AF” of course doesn’t stand for armed forces, Air Force, or Ace Frehley or even Aretha Franklin in popular slang. To many Twitter users and text message senders, “AF” is short for “As F—.”
“Up until this morning it was available but we decided to pull that plate from the market,” Farrar said Monday.
Who does the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles think they are? If a free American citizen wants to drive around with a vanity plate and let the rest of the free American population know that he’s a complete and utter jerk off, that’s his right to do so. I hate to get on my soap box twice in one day about freedom (#YesAllHotTubs), but this is getting ridiculous.
What’s worse is that the Texas DMV hasn’t disallowed such disgusting vanity plate messages as ““XL,” “FX,” and “DR.” If you’re gonna be a whiny liberal, at least be consistent. I assume the DMV doesn’t know what those stand for yet? Well, come next week I’m sure these options will all be off the table once they’re found to signify “Xtra Longcock,” “Fuck Xylophones,” and “Dick Rammer” respectively.
I THOUGHT THIS WAS AMERICA..
