It might come as a surprise to you that Super Bowl champion and notorious partier Rob Gronkowski, a man who once claimed to have only read 80 percent of a book he had supposedly written, did not choose to attend the University of Arizona because of its rigorous academics.

No, Rob apparently lacked that foresight, as many of us do. So what took the Western New York native all the way to Tucson to continue on his educational path? According to his father, it was the pool parties.

From Vanity Fair:

With each of my sons, when they got to the campus that was right for them, they knew right away. Rob had something like 65 scholarship offers, and I asked, “Where are you going? Syracuse? Ohio State?” He goes, “University of Arizona.” I asked, “Why there?” “Dad, if you ever went to a pool party at Arizona, you’d understand.”

Yeah, I’ve been to Arizona and can confirm Rob’s above statement.

I’ve never been a big Gronk fan. The whole Gronkowski family seems like a bunch of weirdos. I would like to be as athletic as one of them (all of the Gronk brothers played professional sports) no question, but not at the expense of my sanity. Can you imagine if one of the Gronk brothers despised sports and instead pursued biochemical engineering or some shit like that at MIT? I think I would still feel slightly more intelligent than him at a dinner party because of his last name.

It hasn’t been a stellar season for Gronk statistically so far, but there is still time for him to turn it on. Maybe he needs some motivation in the form of 12-hour pool parties in Tucson.
