The Southeastern Conference is taking steps to ensure that referees make the most accurate calls possible this college football season.

On Tuesday, the SEC announced that instant replay reviews will be a collaborative effort between the in-stadium referees and personnel operating from the SEC Headquarters, who will have a live feed of the replay monitor.

From SEC

“Our goal is to continue to use the best-available resources to support correct outcomes when instant replay is used,” SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said upon approval of the initiative. “We believe the collaborative effort, which will involve additional officiating experts during replay reviews, will enhance the Conference’s football officiating program. I believe this update to the instant replay review process will better support football officiating in the SEC through the use of technology.”

Just a testament to how seriously the south takes its college football. The Atlantic Coast Conference will also implement the new system this year. The National Football League has had it for some time now.

No matter how many steps CFB officials take to ensure they get the call right, there will still undoubtedly be plenty of outrage on the losing end of a close call, which brings up the age old question: how many refs does it take to screw up a call?
