Saint Louis University suffered a blow to their overall record and self-esteem on Wednesday night. The Billikens came out on the losing end to St. Bonaventure and apparently embarrassed their own bus driver enough that she took off without the team.

From ESPN:

After Saint Louis suffered a 70-55 loss at St. Bonaventure on Wednesday night, the Billikens prepared to make the trip home.

Just one problem.

Their bus and its driver were missing.

The Billikens soon learned that the driver, 56-year-old Linda Edmister, had taken the bus 40 miles away to Randolph, New York, where she was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated, according to New York State Police Trooper James O’Callaghan.

Sometimes you need a little bit of grandma’s cough medicine to help ease the pain of defeat.

Is there anything more suspicious on the road than an empty bus? If I spot a bus in a bar parking lot only to discover a women sitting on a barstool inside by herself, I know something is off. Maybe she initially had good intentions of only having a beer to kill time. When she saw the action on TV, she decided to step it up a notch as Saint Louis was destined for yet another loss. Who am I kidding? It must have been ladies night at the bar and there’s no way a bus driver named Linda wasn’t making the most of those specials.

I don’t really know how one becomes a team bus driver to begin with. I feel like when you have a team driver it can go one of two ways. They’re either the church going type who really wanted to find a way to get involved with the community and team, or they have one too many felonies on their record and weren’t able to land any other work.

While there isn’t much time left for the Billikens season, hopefully the student body runs with this and starts showing up to games with “this team makes me AND the bus driver drink” signs. The students have to make this part of their culture now if they are going to save any sort of self-respect. Own the joke before it owns you.

Don’t put it past Vegas to start accepting over/under bets on Saint Louis’ bus driver blood alcohol content levels going forward.
