It was a battle for the ages in Denver on Wednesday.

The “national anthem standoff” has become a pseudo-tradition in the baseball world. It essentially is nothing more than two players from opposing teams who attempt to stand on the field for as long as possible after the national anthem ends. While the professionals do not usually partake in what I consider to be the epitome of “good, clean fun,” their amateur counterparts have taken it to extreme levels in recent years.

Yesterday, just before the Washington Nationals played the Colorado Rockies in Denver, Nationals’ player Aaron Barrett (@aaronbarrett30) faced off against the Rockies’ Brandon Barnes.

As players in both dugouts assisted their teammates in the grueling battle, umpires were ready to start the game and had to send one of them packing, leaving Aaron Barrett as the last man standing.

Watch the video of the standoff below.

We were Team Barrett.
