MIT students are known to be pretty damn smart, specifically when it comes to how things work. In fact, the US News Report just ranked MIT as the #1 engineering school in the country for undergraduates. So, it may come as a bit of a shock when a student came crashing down four stories through the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity skylight right around 11:30pm on a Wednesday night, falling like a presumably drunken James Bond in Quantum of Solace. Surely a student of that caliber would at least understand the concept of glass shattering?
The truth always has a way of coming out, however, and the Boston Herald is reporting today that the young man was actually “jumping up & down on the Plexiglas dome sky light, fell through 4 stories, and landed on his back.” A police report claims, “He was alert and conscious after the fall and had head injuries,” which sounds like no small miracle really. One wonders how drunk this character was and how much the old “drunk accident ragdoll” effect helped him out.
The Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity was cited for having an “illegal rooftop deck,” which they advertised parties for on their website, and honestly sounds pretty sweet. Jumping up and down on a skylight that is four stories above the next thing under it, and then crashing through and landing on your back, however, sounds awful. There are more than enough spectacular “jumping off a roof into the pool fail” videos on the internet to keep you busy. Don’t tell me no one has a video of this.
