Law Bans Maryland Colleges From Demanding Social Media Info From Prospective Students

Employers always look at our online profiles. If we didn’t censor the shit out of the photos our jackass friends tag us in on Facebook, we’d be more un-hirable than a vocally racist, computer-illiterate leper who suffers from ADHD. Universities in the modern age are hot on the trail of our digital footprints as well.

Prospective college students in Maryland, however, will no longer have to worry about checking “private” in the photos of them lying on the floor covered in their own mess or butt-chugging a Four Loko. No longer will they have to fear for their futures after posting a rant about how gross the newest Kardashian vagina will look.

On Monday, a bill that bars universities from demanding access to prospective students’ social media accounts went into effect.

From USA Today College:

“Maryland Senate Bill 210, which went into effect Monday, June 1, 2015, makes it illegal for colleges and universities in Maryland to demand or require access to students’ social media accounts.”

Not so fast, Marylanders. Don’t celebrate by posting videos of yourselves pooping on national landmarks and thwapping objects off of counters with your penises just yet.

I for one am skeptical of this whole charade. Look at this:

“The law also does not prevent a student or third party from sharing information with college officials, according to WTOP.”

This means that Facebook, a company notorious for whoring out our personal information to target advertisers, could easily make a quick buck by selling your incriminating posts to Maryland colleges.

I advise that everybody keeps all phones and packages in their pants for the time being. Unless, of course, you want to be our next featured Snapchat Takeover girl. If you do, shoot an email to my buddy:
