High Schooler Charged With Rape Given No Jail Time So He Can Have A “College Experience”

When you get the nickname “David the Rapist,” you know you’ve done something undeniably wrong. Nobody calls you that endearingly or ironically. Such is the case with high school senior David “The Rapist” Becker who was charged with sexually assaulting two unconscious classmates. But the judge in the case gave him probation because the defense attorney successfully argued that Becker should, get this, “go on to the next step of his life, which is a college experience.”

Look, I get what the judge is doing here. He’s not trying to ruin this kid’s life before it’s even begun. But come on, man. He was charged with two counts of rape and one of indecent assault. It’s bonkers that a judge wouldn’t send him to jail. But this judge siding with the defense attorney’s reason is ridiculous. So he can have a college experience? Fuck outta here. This judge is flouting society’s conventions.

From Mass Live:

“He can now look forward to a productive life without being burdened with the stigma of having to register as a sex offender,” said attorney Thomas Rooke, who defended David Becker, 18, in court. “The goal of this sentence was not to impede this individual from graduating high school and to go onto the next step of his life, which is a college experience…We all made mistakes when we were 17, 18, 19 years old, and we shouldn’t be branded for life with a felony offense and branded a sex offender,” Rooke said. “Putting this kid in jail for two years would have destroyed this kid’s life.”

Cry me a river, Timberlake. That’s what you’re supposed to do to rapists. Ruin their life. You don’t get a free pass because you’re on the cusp of the best four years of your life. He should spend those four college years in jail. Apparently one of the two victims said she didn’t want “David the Rapist” to go to jail. Okay, but what about the other victim? I bet if you asked her she’d want this guy swallowing eight balls at Rikers Island instead of our boy Nasir Khan.

But the thing that really grinds my gear is this…

On August 15, Palmer District Court Judge Thomas Estes ordered Becker’s case continued without a finding for two years, during which time he must remain drug and alcohol-free, submit to an evaluation for sex offender treatment and stay away from the two 18-year old victims.

So they’re letting “David the Rapist” go to college but for his first two years he has to remain alcohol and drug free? Judge Estes, you motorboating son of a bitch! That’s some sweet, sweet justice. “Oh you want to stay out of jail to have a ‘college experience?’ Fine, I sentence you to two years sobriety at college.” Wow. Is there a punishment more severe?
