The good ole U.S. of A. is in for a turbulent couple days as Hurricane Sandy bears down on the east coast with fists of fury. Sandy poses a serious threat to our east coast brethren, as she has been described as a once-in-a-lifetime hurricane set to pound the northeast.
While you are all hunkered down waiting for that megabitch to pass through, I intend to lighten the mood a bit with the Great Moments in Live Extreme Weather News Coverage. One of life’s great enjoyments, and silver lining during these trying times, is the extreme weather on-scene reporter – you know, the one risking his or her life to bring you exciting, yet totally unnecessary, live weather coverage.
Every time I hear, “Let’s go live to…” during hurricane, tornado, or other extreme weather coverage, my eyes and ears are glued to the TV. This is why:
8. Into the Bush
“It was a couple of hours ago that………….hold on…….alright, sorry about that.”
7. Thumbs Up, Roof Off
“Hurricane Ike is coming on land, and…”
…it’s time to go inside now, chief.
6. Katrina Takes Out CNN Reporter
“We’re gonna go inside now.”
The cameraman makes this guy look like a little bitch by keeping a wide, firm base, staying on his feet, and keeping his composure.
5. Horse Face Takes on Sandy
“There’s a shirtless man jogging, wearing a horse mask.”
Hurricane Sandy? Fuck her. Where’s my mask?
4. Sandy Style
Two doofuses do the Gangnam Style dance as Sandy approaches.
3. Irene Interrupts Pants-Off Touch Football Game
“I don’t even want to show it. At this point, I don’t even want to show how many people are out and about, how many cars are driving around…it’s just setting a bad example.”
This video is made better by how visibly upset the reporter is at the sight of people not taking the hurricane seriously. “This is serious business, guys!” Nice goggles, too.
2. Navigating Through the Flood From Hell
“Is there some kind of severe drop off there between the foreground….can we go back? We saw these guys a second ago…these holy men walking on top of water.”
This lady is canoeing in seemingly deep flood water as her only means of transportation through the disastrous streets of Wayne, New Jersey when two men casually stroll by to reveal she’s sitting in about three inches of water. She is literally pushing the canoe along by paddle-to-street contact.
1. The Galveston Bear
“We see some clown out there trying to enjoy what’s left of this nice day.”
The greatest part of this video is the cameraman’s infatuation with the bear and reluctance to take the camera off of him, even when directed to do so by the reporter.
Stay safe out there.
