Former U.S. Marine Badly Beaten Outside University Of Alabama FIJI House

Volunteer firefighter and former United States Marine Joseph Zebrowski (had the tone of this story been a light-hearted one, this is where I would have made a Big Lebowski reference) visited the DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa last week after an encounter in front of UA’s Phi Gamma Delta house led to a violent beating. Zebrowski suffered “a collapsed lung, several broken ribs, a gash to his head, a black eye and bruises all over his body,” per

According to his mother, Zebrowski was walking home from a local bar when he got lost and stopped at the Fiji house to ask for directions.

Edwards said her son planned to walk back to his hotel but got lost. He stopped to ask for directions at the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house on campus.

“The next thing he knew he was being brutally attacked,” Edwards said. “He found himself on the ground with several guys kicking him in the head, chest, back and abdomen.”

It sounds like such a senseless attack. It begs the question: why?

A tipster informed Total Frat Move that the altercation may have been related to the ivy that covers the front of the house. Per our source, that ivy is the subject of an ongoing prank among UA fraternities.

From our tipster:

“Those guys are pretty serious about the ivy that covers the front of their house. Most fraternities send over a couple pledges every year for a covert mission to try to steal some and an all out brawl usually breaks out because of it. It’s all fun and games among pledges. Looks like this poor guy stumbled up to the front of the house and the Phi Gams thought he was trying to get some of their precious ivy.”

It should be made clear that this information is not confirmed — it’s merely one theory.

It was last reported that Zebrowski is in fair condition and will likely make a full recovery.
