I’m aware of how tight fraternity budgets can be. When dealing with upwards of a hundred degenerates, finances are not always the top priority. Some chapters make do with what they manage to collect; others use alternative methods of acquiring necessary materials.

Five University of Southern California Sigma Nus were arrested early yesterday morning on suspicion of theft. The men were busted thieving plants and garden statues from nearby homes, allegedly to be used in a future fraternity party.

From Pasadena Star-News:

Five USC students were arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of stealing plants and garden statues of a Buddha, cat and ducks from yards, police said.

They told officers the plants would be used as decorations at a future fraternity party, according to Sgt. Gerald Johnson. The fraternity they mentioned was Sigma Nu.

A gaggle of fraternity brothers stealing shit, that itself is nothing new. However, these boys forgot rules one and two of fraternity thievery: don’t get caught and DENY, DENY, DENY.

Arrested on suspicion of grand theft and conspiracy to commit grand theft were Dylan Walter, 19, Miles Horton, 18, Graham Vines, 18, Darshan Patel, 18, and Eyobed Mesfun, 19. Police said the five live on campus.

The Facebook pages for the five suspects mention a Sigma Nu “Rumble” for Oct. 11. It’s not clear if this was the party that required the plant decor. A representative for the fraternity couldn’t be reached for comment on Wednesday.

However, the design used in the “Rumble” photo on their Facebook pages consisted of birds and fronds. Four of the suspects used it as their profile pictures.

Parties are fun. Parties are great. Even when abusing copious amounts of alcohol in order to stifle regret, it’s tough to enjoy yourself knowing what the future may hold.

Their bail was set at $20,000 each, and all five had posted bail by Wednesday night.

Use this as a reminder. Don’t get fucking caught.
