GOP presidential candidate, business mogul, and social media extraordinaire Donald Trump is known for sticking by what he says, no matter how much his statements piss people off. But on Thursday, something rare happened: Trump apologized. Sort of. He apologized for a nameless intern running his Twitter account.
Hours after a Quinnipiac Poll revealed Trump was now losing to neurosurgeon Ben Carson in Iowa, the Trump Twitter account retweeted this:

Now, if you want to win votes in Iowa, the last thing you can do is criticize the people’s corn. You also don’t want to make fun of Monsanto, a huge agricultural engineering company with $16 billion in annual sales last year. Bad. All bad.
The tweet appeared on the Trump Twitter account long enough to rile up people on social media.

The tweet has since been un-retweeted by the Trump account. Fear not, though, Trump supporters in Iowa. Your boy isn’t to blame.
It was the damn intern.
The young intern who accidentally did a Retweet apologizes.

Now, some will say Trump took the easy way out, blaming a young intern that may or may not exist. However, Trump at least owned up to the retweet and acknowledged it existed instead of quietly covering it up.
Plus, according to the Quinnipiac poll, Trump and Carson hold commanding leads over the rest of the GOP pack in Iowa, so I doubt the retweet misstep will damage Trump too terribly much.
Trump, who personally live-tweeted the Democratic debate and even called Joe Flacco an elite quarterback in a Twitter video Q&A, will likely be watching his account’s retweets about Iowans a little closer in the next few weeks.
Life would be easier if interns weren’t such screw ups. I’m still waiting on those missing Fail Fridays..
