Chico State Sigma Nu is currently serving a suspension in which they are prohibited from holding socials, including White Rose formal. What’s a fraternity to do when facing a year without being able to host your favorite annual shitshow? Well, you find any and all loopholes available to you.
According to a tipster, one of their members decided to host an impromptu wedding a few months ago at the Almendra Winery & Distillery, a good eight miles down the road from Chico State. The wedding was very real, including official marriage documents and an ordained minister (who was good friends with the groom). The only problem was that the event got so out of hand that it caused a stir.
This is what the tipster had to say:
umors are that the wedding was so insane that Sigma Nu racked up hundreds of dollars in damages at the venue which happened to be a winery that had just recently opened. Over 100 college students showed up in school buses hammered to the venue which was held in a neighboring town 15 minutes from Chico and the craziness occurred. Damages included scratches on the walls, broken glasses, urine in wine barrels, and even finding empty bags of “powder-like” substance on the floor. The venue also accused the students of throw up being all over the venue and even catching some of the students having sex in the venue.
The marriage license is real from what I know from my neighbor, and even had a legally ordained minister who happens to be one of the groom’s really good friends. The issue is that the marriage license has not yet been filed, rumors are said that the bride and groom had issues shortly after the ceremony and annulled their decision.
This is all hearsay, of course. However, I have to believe it’s true. Sigma Nu at Chico State is currently suspended, according to the school’s website. And there is photographic evidence on Instagram of the wedding. All you have to do is search #jetblackwedding on Instagram to see that something went down at the winery. One of the captions even says, “Bucket List #91. Attend an impromptu wedding with your best friends.” No pictures of the destruction, though.
I need this to be true. The Sigma Nu who actually got married was a genius. Can’t throw a formal? How about a wedding instead? Marriage can always come to an end, but you only have four years to throw a formal..
