Hopefully this isn’t breaking news to you, but Charles Barkley is a national treasure. Every time he opens his mouth, Sir Charles makes headlines. The man was put on this Earth to play basketball and say ridiculous shit, and his playing days are long behind him. TNT’s Inside The NBA is his new court, where he puts on All-Star-caliber performances of a different sort.
Just last night, the Chuckster treated us all to another masterpiece and showed that he may need to brush up on his college ball when he confused Iowa for Purdue before putting on a geographical tour de force.
The pure chaos that erupts in just a 30-second timeframe is pure magic. You’ve got Charles mixing up Iowa and Purdue, covering his ass by saying that Iowa and Indiana are the same state, and then, for some reason, bringing up Montana and Idaho. Then, in a continuation of their ongoing on-air rivalry, Shaq sneaks in a “that’s that Auburn education” dig towards the end. Simply delightful.
The real winners of this whole faux pas have to be Iowa fans, who for a split second, had their abysmal 12-14 record erased on national television and were sitting high at 23-3. What a turnaround. Purdue probably wasn’t all that gassed to be lumped in with one of the worst teams in the division, but hey, that’s what happens when you play Barkley ball.
I can’t wait to see what fire flames analysis Charles has when he joins the March Madness team. On a scale from turrible to 10, I’m sure it’ll be something right around this level.
