Budweiser Now Forcing Drunk Strangers To Become Facebook Friends

======= ======= ====== ====== ====== ===== ==== ====== ====== ===== ==== ======= ======= ====== ====== ====== ===== ==== ====== ====== ===== ====

Stalkers of the world, rejoice! Bars across the country are about to get a whole lot creepier. Budweiser is introducing something so psychotically brilliant a sorority girl must have thought it up. It’s called the “Buddy Cup,” and it’s a goblet that connects to your Facebook page, so when you clink glasses with another Buddy, you become Facebook friends while blackout at the bar.

Now everyone can be Harriet the Spy with the clink of a glass. While I’m not a beer girl (TSM), I might consider switching sides if it means I can guarantee I’m not getting (Don) Drapered, a term I’ve coined to describe being Catfished in real life (sidenote: I’m convinced Amanda Bynes is Drapering us all). The cup has its positives, for example you’ll be able to confirm that your “buddy” is of age and single. While that’s good to know when you’re drunk and trying to get it in, it means you’ll also be forced to see their blatherings on Facebook for years to come. Who cares about the smokeshow from the bar’s emotional rants? And do you really want to see that hot guy’s grandma wish him a Happy Birthday? Didn’t think so, but Budweiser does.

While I’m a firm proponent of internet stalking, this is overkill. Plus, does anyone really want to be reminded of the person they met last night at the bar? Yes, if they’re attractive, but not so much if you find out via FB that they’re a conspiracy theorist guido who looks like Chay Tates in Step Up 2: The Streets. In situations like that, a little bit of mystery never hurt anyone. Clinking also allows potential stalkers to get a whole lot creepier. That random who bought you a drink and ended up being a real weirdo? He could tap that while you’re not looking.

I don’t know about you, but I would prefer my intoxicated nights to remain unclear memories, and it looks like Budweiser might start cramping my style. It’s currently in its beta stages, so we’re safe for now, but soon enough your drunken mistake will automatically show up the next morning on your news feed, so be careful who you “clink” with.

Here’s the promo. For some reason it looks like they’re testing it in Brazil.
