The Disney Channel is in the early stages of developing a Boy Meets World sequel series called Girl Meets World, TVLine has learned exclusively.
Sources say that the cable network is trying to land original series stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel to revisit their roles of sweethearts Cory and Topanga, who married before their ABC sitcom ended its seven-season run. The new series would center on their preteen daughter.
First of all…(*leaps into arms of person nearby, jumps up and down screaming like a Fruit Loop*) AGGHHHH! Who can do inconsequential things like “vote for President” on a day like today? There’s going to be a BOY MEETS WORLD SEQUEL!
Now, obviously, there’s a lot of potential for tremendous letdown here. Traditionally, spinoffs and remakes don’t exactly have the unblemished track record of Pappanick. Not every sequel’s mother can be a mudder. For every Godfather Part II, there’s Godfather Part III. For every Rocky IV, there’s Rocky II, III, and the Rocky Installment That Shalt Not Be Named.
But if there was EVER a show that has the perpetual staying power to survive the curse of the redux, it’s clearly Boy Meets World. After all, this is the same show that gave us Plays with Squirrels, ”Und-ah-pants!”, and the stinking Feeny Call, for crying out loud.
And her name…is Opangatay.
