If there’s one thing about today’s political climate, it’s that you’ve got to pull out all the stops to get the W. And that’s exactly what 35-year-old pro golfer Billy Hurley III did to young buck Jordan Spieth, a smug and arrogant golfer who does not care about what other people think. Disgusting.
Hurley created a political ad because the two are apparently running for Chairman of the PGA Tour Player Advisory Council and, based on name recognition alone, it’d seem Spieth would have the upper hand. That didn’t stop Trump from toppling Hilary though, now did it? Hurley, like Trump, went golf balls deep to make sure he buried Spieth. And bury he did.
No way Spieth is coming back from that.
I tried not to laugh the first time watching this, but I lost it when he called Michael Greller a “peasant caddy” and when he missed the cut, “doing it for the love of the game.” This, right here, ladies and gentleman, is a true American hero.
Hurley, ranked 272nd in the OWGR, might not be the greatest golfer when he steps up there to take a hack at it, but goddamnit you’ve got to root for the guy. He’s slotted right up there with Andrew “Beef” Johnston of guys you’d want to golf with and then just destroy the country club’s whiskey selection with. Creating a political attack ad just to highlight your slightly-above-averageness-but-not-trying-too-hard career is the stuff legends are made out of.
You’ve got my vote too, Billy..
