USA Today, with the help of College Factual, recently compiled a ranking of the most popular majors among college students. The results are pretty much on par with what you’d expect:
9. English Language and Literature
8. Liberal Arts and Sciences, General Studies, and Humanities
6. Criminal Justice
5. Teacher Education and Professional Development
4. General Biology
2. General Psychology
1. Business Administration and Management
I’d put down good money that engineering is one of the top majors freshman year, but students wave the white flag and jump ship after their idealistic dream of working on turbines is crushed by the workload a year or two in.
My degree in underwater basket weaving makes a strong run, sliding into the number eight slot this year. Fortunately, unlike 99 percent of my class peers, I’m collecting a paycheck from Grandex rather than unemployment. I’m sure many of you will point out that both are a waste of funding and resources, so I’ll just crack that joke before any of you assholes have the opportunity.
Nothing to really argue here, as this list is based on facts, but feel free to comment on the direction our generation is going with career path choices. .
